We construct an Ansible that allows for real-time communication between Earth and Mars. Communication is billed by the byte. By galactic law, all ansible transmissions are BROADCAST.
- Working definition for "BROADCAST": All material broadcast on terrestrial amplitude-modulation radio, published in one of a loosely-defined set of paper newspapers, or posted on Twitter.
- Open Question: Does the Reign of Elizabeth II end when the Ansible says it has ended, or 17 minutes later when the subspace communications arrive?
- This is the first Earth-Mars ansible. We are not concerned with out-of-band FTL communication.
- The ansible is most commonly used for instant messages. Messages are a small amount of text (up to 280 characters) encrypted into a 1440 byte payload. All binaries and public keys are sent by subspace communications due to transmission cost.
